Happy CNY!

February 11, 2008

Yes I know I’m late, but you know what they say (they say “better late than never”, by the way).

CNY is, allow me, Chinese, which makes it a privilege, which makes it so damn enjoyable. Being a Chinese living in Hong Kong, I get to have two new years, which means I have two years in one year. Buy one get one free! Actually, it’s better than free, because people (married) pay you (me) (lots and lots) during CNY (yay).

Second chances for all Chinese. So if you feel like you’ve pretty much screwed up your January new year, fret not, another one will arrive in a month or so. Another year to start over, and another set of resolutions too, if you like. Most importantly, another set of holidays, which I happened to have spent (till moment of typing) with my face burried in my new short bob(ish shaped weird looking hairstyle) (read: ugly) and tons of maths past papers that would not mean anything in four months time. Until, of course, the results come out and I realized that those past papers separates having a good life and being screwed up for the rest of eternity.

Ironically, people that tend to have felt that they’ve ruined their first month and a half of the western new year, unmistakably screw up their Chinese new year, too. Which pretty much sums up why other people are not particularly jealous of our CNY, because under the conspicuous “TWO IN ONE!!!” is the small foot note “(read: two chances to screw up)”.

Feeling festive.
